Why your vote might not matter today.

November 7, 2006

Ok so I just got up, fired up the computer and looked to see how many problems the polling places were having today. And sure enough, problems are everywhere. Why does this surprise anyone? There was no October surprise, there was no November surprise from the Republicans. So, how could they win without a surprise terrorist attack or the like?

By cheating.

This morning, there are reports from Florida, Virginia, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania about voting machine trouble and voter intimidation. I would put the links to different stories, but there are so many of them and they just keep getting bigger. Trust me, google “election problem” and the list will be never-ending.

So what can you do about it? To be honest, nothing. You cant do a thing. Oh sure, you can call:

1-866-OUR VOTE (1-866-687-8683)
1-888-DEMVOTE (1-888-336-8683)
1-888-SAV-VOTE (1-888-728-8683)

But by the time anything can get done about it, the polls will have closed. And the election will be history.

I dont want to be a pessimist. I dont want to say these things. But remember, they cheated and stole the election in 2004, there is proof of it, and still, look who is President. Yup, the head thief. So they can cheat, there can be proof of the cheating, but nothing happens.

I am afraid that is what is going to happen today. I hope not. I hope enough people show up at the polls to counteract the fraud. I really do. But the Repugs are smart, they know what they are doing, and I can only hope that the masses will be strong enough to overcome them.

Remember, the polls leading up to this election were saying that it was likely that the Democrats would be taking back the House by 25 some-odd seats and probably the Senate as well. Look for the final numbers to be a lot closer.

But in the end, do your part. Vote. Get your friends to vote. Drive them to their poll if you have to. Its the only weapon we have.
