Finally at the far ends of this earth, a country has done what no one else will…ban incandescent light bulbs. It is about time! They hope to be completely done with them within 3 years, and expect this change to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 4 million tons.
I know there has been talk here in the States (well, California of course) and the UK of doing this, and while I believe the UK might make it happen, I am afraid we are years off here in California. Due to the majority of citizens “non-belief” in global warming and the upfront cost of the CFL bulbs, I don’t think it is going to happen anytime soon. But who knows, I could be completely wrong and we could ban them here too very soon. One can dream!
There really is no reason to continue to use incandescent light bulbs when CFL’s last so much longer and are better for the environment. I intend to keep my
eye on this story and hope the powers that be here in California use this step the Australians are taking to their advantage in gaining public support.
