As I am writing this, there are landscapers ripping up every last drop of greenery and cement around my apartment building…in an effort to make us more green. It makes no sense to me, removing everything and then putting in the “green” aspects they are installing, but whatever. We are getting some sort of water sinks in the front yard, more grass in our previously all cement courtyard, and a bunch of other stuff. All I know is that the building is shaking from the cement “breaker-upper” thingy and it is awfully loud. Hopefully they will be done today and can start the actual work on this place! On to some stories that caught my eye this week:
Toyota plans on adding an eco-driving indicator to all models, even the non-hybrids. Maybe this will stop people from stomping on the gas when they see the pretty little light go off.
No Impact Man says “Now that I’m only lower impact man“…see what he is talking about.
As the New Year begins, Chicagoans are getting some direct encouragement to forgo buying disposable bottled water and switch to reusable bottles filled with fresh, clean water from the tap. In November, Chicago became the first city in the U.S. to pass a tax on bottled water sold within the city limits. The 5 cents per bottle tax went into effect on Jan. 1, and is expected to raise $10.5 million for the city this year.
The U.S. government says we can expect gas prices of $3.50 before June…but maybe I should let them know we here in Los Angeles have been paying over $3.50 for months now, so we would be glad to see $3.50 again! Oh wait, that just means the average across the country. So if Indiana had gas for $2.79 last month but it should be $3.50 by June, that means I can expect to pay at least $4.21 a gallon by then. Yea!
