This weekend I plan on doing a whole lot of nothing. Reading a good book, sitting in the park, walking down by the beach…I have to get outside! Been spending way too much time in front of the computer and I think I will have to start a one day a week “No Computer Day” just to make sure I unplug. That’s going to be hard to do!
The Prince of Wales is to launch his own campaign to persuade shoppers to turn away from plastic carrier bags. Charles, who has received plaudits for his work highlighting green issues, believes they are a damaging by-product of the throwaway society which are choking the environment. Go Charles!
If you’re into sustainable living, or getting into it, the best way to green your food is to start growing your own vegetables, herbs and fruit. You may think that’s not possible if you live in a flat in the city. Well, not only is it possible, but it’s a great stress-buster and a good way to cut food miles. Gotta get out of our apartment!
Whoever wins on November 5 will wake up to preside over a different America than the schematic one he was debating about during the primaries and the election. The long campaign will beat a path straight into the long emergency. The new president will inherit a wrecked banking system, an economy in freefall, a wobbling world oil market, and an American public extremely ticked off by its startling, sudden impoverishment. (This is apart from whatever melodramas spool out on the geopolitical scene.) – Caution, adult language here.
Several hundred people sat in a fifth-floor ballroom at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square on Monday eating pasta and trying hard to prove that they had unraveled the established science showing that humans are warming the world in potentially disruptive ways. Geniuses, all of ‘em.
Have a great weekend everyone!
