The internet is speedy, the sky is blue, the clouds are puffy and I am alive and well after a 15 hour drive with a packed Subaru, a tired wife, and a very angry cat. Although I have not heard a word from the movers about when our stuff is arriving, I don’t really care too much…there are cows right down the street from me and Taos Mountain right behind me. I really do think we have made the right decision for us.
Within walking distance of the house we have rented is the post office, a coffee shop, the town plaza, and a bunch of nice restaurants – so it looks like we can remain a one-car family for a while longer, which is fantastic. While Taos is certainly a smallish town, driving from Los Angeles to here really got me thinking about what is going to happen to so many of the communities we passed once gasoline becomes prohibitively expensive; I imagine they will be abandoned as some of them are 20 or even 30 miles from even a grocery store or a gas station!
Anyway, just wanted to give you a quick update on our status and while we get settled in, I will be getting back in the writing groove. Also, got a cool new Flip video camera that I plan on taking with us on our many adventures, so look for some videos in the next couple of weeks!
P.S. – I found out that they do not recycle plastic here in Taos…looks like I have my work cut out for me to change the system around here so I don’t have to drive my own plastic anything down to Santa Fe just to recycle it!
