The sun is actually roughly 109 times the size of the Earth – so based on this statement this rotating patch of trash in the North Pacific (called a gyre by the way) is larger by 100x than the size of the Earth. Interesting.

This is really useful. I think people interested in the environment know about the swirling plastic garbage in the Pacific but otherwise I don't think it's well known.
