Greenwash Of The Week: Southwest Airlines “Green” Plane.

Some of you may have already seen this story through my social media channels, after I sent it over to my friend Keith at The Unsuitablog, a big-time lover of all things greenwash. But for those who missed it, I wanted to mention it here as well as this week’s Greenwash of the Week. Seems Southwest Airlines has jumped on the “green” bandwagon with their new “green” plane. Yes, you read that right – a plane, flying at 500+ MPH at 37,000 feet, using (in a 737) 9,000 lbs of fuel per hour of flight-time, is now considered “green” because they put in non-toxic carpeting, tougher seat covers that may last a little longer, and aluminum rub strips. Yep, sure sounds green to me. Let me be clear of my stance on this – I understand people need to fly for business or the occasional vacation. But there is nothing green about flying. Nothing. And an airline making the claim of being green and caring about “environmental stewardship” is just a greenwash. The best way to green an airline? Fly less.

Absolutely right! Fly less, or fly MUCH LESS is indeed the only way to make any airline as green as possible. Everything else is nice packaging …

Fly less ! So why are you running advertising for cheap Airfare deals?
