Greenhouse Gasses At All Time High Levels

Um… uh oh? The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said today that levels of greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere are at their highest level since pre-industrial times. These are the gasses that cause climate change and have increased 27.5% from 1990 to 2009 — that’s a huge jump. Saying that it could take 100 years for carbon dioxide to disappear from the atmosphere if emissions stopped completely and immediately, you have to really start wondering if the small incremental changes we are making will have any effect. Between man-made carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, we are truly destroying our own future here on this planet.

Anyone else feeling that way?

  1. Yes! Yes, I feel like we are destroying our own future on this planet. I have no doubts that after we have killed ourselves off, the Earth would take care of itself, but that’s small consolation since I would like to live on this planet.

Still, I think the small changes have some effect, anyway. The more people make small changes, the more likely big changes will follow. That’s the hope, anyway — isn’t it? What do you think?
