Why Do We Continue To Allow The Destruction Of Our Planet?

Do we as humans have innate, unstoppable desire to kill ourselves off? Do we really care more about material possessions like money, cars, and houses than we do about what we do to our home planet in order to get these things? How much more are we OK with allowing our corporations and politicians to continue to exploit the planet and its people to further their economic interests? The following images are just a tiny example of what we let happen all in the name of development, accumulating, and the creation of wealth for a select few. How much is enough? Why are we doing this to ourselves?

How much more are you willing to accept as the status-quo before you speak up?

These pictures are pretty heartwrenching, that’s for sure. Every part of me burns with desire to change it.
I also wonder why we’re doing this to ourselves. I’m sure part of the problem is ignorance — we often don’t see the impact of our actions or, say, associate buying a chocolate bar with rainforest destruction — but even when we do have the knowledge, we often continue to make poor choices for reasons of convenience, culture, or apathy. Or we simply deny the knowledge.
The photos are a troubling reminder of how much we have to answer for.
When did humans become so parasitic and just not give a damn? Of course, some of us do care a heck of a lot and do the best that we can, but is greed and apathy overshadowing all that we do?
I think that many are now waking up, but there is still much, much more work to do.
