Living Off The Grid In West Texas

If anyone is doing “it” right it is John Wells, who is living entirely off the grid and on his own terms in Terlingua, Texas. A former photographer in New York City, in 2007 Wells bought 40 acres of scrub land in west Texas for $8,000 and began building his own little off grid home and workshop, showing us all how it can be done for very little money but a lot of hard work and time investment. Wells runs a website called The Field Lab which documents his daily activities, and recently the New York Times did a full length article on him which is a must-read for anyone interested in living the off grid life. I found it absolutely fascinating, even after being a long-time reader of his personal site. I highly recommend you check out his site and the New York Times article when you get a chance.

Some day I hope this will be me!
