While I may have been raised in the heart of Montana farm and ranchland, it wasn’t until just recently (and after a move to the city) that I caught wind of the new trend in farming apprenticeships: volunteering one’s time and energy to do farm work in trade for free room, board and education.
The rapid and terrifying acceleration of global warming, which is disfiguring the ecosystem at a swifter pace than even the gloomiest scientific studies predicted a few years ago, has been confronted by the power elite with two kinds of self-delusion. The sky really is falling.
After the nuclear catastrophe of Fukushima, as a German living in the U.S., I often get asked these days: What’s going on in Germany with the shutdown of nuclear power plants – ”˜responsible’ purchase.
