LivingHomes C6 – Low-Cost, LEED Platinum Level Prefab Home

February 17, 2012

Long time readers of The Good Human may remember when I previously mentioned LivingHomes by Ray Kappe, prefab homes designed to meet Platinum LEED certification. They are beautiful homes, but they had one thing working against them – their price. They were priced at about $750,000 plus the land they would sit on, putting them well out of reach of most anyone. Well, for those of you who love modern, eco-friendly prefab homes, I have some good news; the company just released word of their new LivingHome C6, which is just as beautiful but priced at a very affordable $179,000.

LivingHomes C6

The LivingHomes C6 combines modern design with the LEED® Platinum level environmental program and Cradle-to-Cradle inspired materials. The house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in 1,232 square feet, and has all sorts of eco features like cork floors, super-insulated walls and windows, a Nest temperature control unit, and floor-to-ceiling glass & clerestory windows for ample free lighting during the day. A portion of the proceeds from each house sale goes to support the organization, which works to help rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

I have always been a fan of prefab homes, starting with when I discovered Michelle Kauffman’s BreezeHouse. This new LivingHomes C6 is absolutely stunning, and at $179,000 for a well-configured home, it seems to be something that a lot of people would be interested in. Let’s hope it’s a success!
