I won’t get to into it here, but the other day I had a discussion with someone regarding the affordability of non-toxic, natural products available for purchase.
The belief that natural skin, body, and household products are more expensive than their more conventional products is not without merit; after all, many manufacturers of such products do sell them at a premium, putting them out of reach of many households. The media likes to exploit this information as “news”, discouraging many people from even looking for the affordable non-toxic products on the market.
That being said, there are several products that are inexpensive, safe, non-toxic, and readily available at most stores. My favorite one to mention, especially to anyone thinking they need to buy 10 different bottles of products for all the different uses at home, is Dr. Bronner’s castile soap. I bet you didn’t know that those colorful bottles of soap, each covered with the ramblings of Dr. Bronner himself, are not only affordable but are also organic, cruelty-free, Fair Trade, biodegradable, and packaged in recycled plastic bottles.
The best part? You can buy a single non-toxic product and use it for all of the following:
- Face Wash
- Body Soap
- Household Cleaning – Floors, windows, countertops
- Laundry Soap
- Bubble Bath
- Pet Detergent
- Vegetable Wash
- Diaper Wipe Solution
- Dish Soap
- Plant Insecticide
- Shaving Soap
- Car Wash Soap
I have been using Dr. Bronner’s products for years now and have never been anything other than happy with whatever I purchased from them. I have gone through phases of using the soap for most of the uses above and also using it just as a soap and shampoo, which I am currently doing now.
For anyone who thinks that buying non-toxic, safe skin, body, and household products is too expensive, I say do yourself a favor and buy a single 32-ounce bottle of Dr. Bronner’s soap for less than $15 (at Amazon, at least) and see how many uses it has and how long it lasts. Even better, buy it in a bigger bulk capacity at your local natural foods grocer.
There are affordable products out there to help you detox your life, but sometimes you need to know where to look for them.
