Many of you know that I have a major beef with The Nature Conservancy in that they take millions of dollars from polluters like Monsanto as well as keep those companies on their Business Council. It turns out that TNC and Monsanto have something else in common, too – neither of them want the new GMO food labeling law in California to pass next Tuesday on election day. The Nature Conservancy, in taking tons of money from Monsanto, is not supporting the labeling of our food supply while nearly every other environmental group one could think of is supporting it.
Coincidence? I think not. I think TNC is afraid that if they back it, Monsanto won’t pay their bills anymore.
Over at the Yes On 37 website, which is the leader of this initiative here in California, they have a list of all the supporters of this bill. If it passes here, you can bet it will soon start to go nationwide. Major endorsers include: Most of the major health, faith, labor, environmental and consumer groups in California, including the California Nurses Association, California Democratic Party, California Labor Federation, United Farm Workers, American Public Health Association, Consumers Union, California Council of Churches IMPACT, Sierra Club, Whole Foods Market, Natural Resources Defense Council, Organic Consumers Association, Center for Food Safety, Consumer Federation of America, Pesticide Action Network, Center for Food Safety, Environmental Working Group, Breast Cancer Fund, Mercola Health Resources, Public Citizen, MoveOn and Food Democracy Now!
Those against it include Monsanto, General Mills, DuPont, Pepsi, Bayer, Coke, Nestle, Con-Agra Foods, most of which are on The Nature Conservancy’s Business Council. Seems fishy, right?

If you live in California, I urge you to learn the facts about GMO food labeling and to vote YES on Prop 37. We deserve to know what is in the food we eat, even if The Nature Conservancy doesn’t think so.
