Green News For The Weekend Volume 328

September 13, 2013

A little bit of green news to round out the week. Hope my friends in CO are doing okay after all that rain and flooding…

The Invisible Politics of GMO Labeling While 93 percent of Americans say they would like to know which foods are genetically modified, it’s doubtful that companies will be forced to start labeling them. Why? Because they own Congress.

Stop Nestlé from extracting 265 million liters of fresh water for free Nestlé is taking 265 million liters of fresh Canadian water every year to bottle and sell off around the world — and it does not pay a penny. The fact that so many people pay for bottled water is amazing to me. In most cases, what’s wrong with filtered tap water and a reusable bottle?

Save the Pandas! We Need Their Poop. Guess we have more than just the obvious reasons to try to save the panda bear. Turns out, their poop is really, really good at breaking down plant material to use as biofuel. Amazing stuff we learn every day!

Calif. sues Whole Foods over pesticide sales Whole Foods is getting sued by the State of California for “selling products containing pesticides not registered with the state.” Whole Foods. The “natural” food store. What’s next? The Monsanto Aisle?

Healthy & Unhealthy Vegan Foods Just because something is vegan doesn’t mean it’s necessarily good for you. My friend Becky takes a look at how while a vegan diet can be incredibly healthy, it can also be packed with plant-based junk food.

Harrison Ford crusades against climate change, illegal logging in Indonesia The Indonesian government is not too happy with Harrison Ford right now. He recently was accused of “harassing state institutions” and threatened with deportation because of his outspokenness about illegal logging and climate change.

Have a great weekend everyone, stay safe.

Fascinating, the power of poop. Yet another reason to love pandas :)
There’s so much information around these days, I find it hard to wrap my head around the fact that, as much as humans have learned and discovered, there will always be more, we will never run out.
