Those lucky, lucky, Texas Nissan LEAF owners…
Somewhat following the lead of Tesla – which offers its chargers for free across the entire country – Nissan is giving LEAF buyers and lessees in Dallas and Houston free access to the NRG eVgo’s Freedom Station electric vehicle charging network. Called the “No Charge to Charge” program, customers will be able to charge their vehicles for free during the first year of ownership. That, of course, is unfortunately not like Tesla, which gives free access for good to their customers, but it could encourage some car shoppers to consider a LEAF for their next purchase.
“Nissan LEAF owners who already subscribe to NRG eVgo’s Freedom Station network rave about the convenience and increased range confidence it provides,” said Erik Gottfried, Nissan’s director of EV Sales and Marketing. “Adding one of the country’s most innovative charging plans to the world’s best-selling electric car is a clear win for Nissan LEAF buyers.”
eVgo Freedom Station chargers offer both DC fast charging and Level 2 charging. DC fast chargers can fill up batteries to an 80% charge in less than 30 minutes, which isn’t bad, but we are going to really need to speed up charging in order for EVs to be considered by the majority of people. Tesla’s battery-swap program is done in 90 seconds, and that’s probably the way EVs are going to be most effective. Think of a gas station re-imagined as a battery swap place; it’s a no-brainer.
If you’re located in the Dallas-Fort Worth and greater Houston area, this offer from Nissan is good for purchases between October 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014
