Green News For The Weekend Volume 331

October 4, 2013

Welcome to October! My favorite month, by far. Not too hot, not too cold, the leaves are changing a little and the light is different outside. What’s there not to like?

Now let’s check out a few green news stories from the last week; join me?

Revealed: Letters From Republicans Seeking Obamacare Money And you thought you knew your favorite Republican member of Congress. A bunch of rich hypocrites, all of them. Say one thing, do another.

Three Things We Aren’t As Sure Of As Climate Change, But Accept As Fact Anyway Number one on the list? That reading in the dark is bad for your eyes. We take rumors and old wives’ tales as fact but not the research of 95 percent of scientists. We’re a bunch of dummies, when you think about it.

A Resource Guide to Ecosystem Gardening From my friend Carol, here is part 3 of her series. She writes about soil ecology and healthy soil.

How to Build a Garden Shed Out of Pallet Wood I love building things with pallets; I recently built a cat house out of them and have plans for a few tables and some outdoor seating waiting in the wings. Here, GRIT gives you the lowdown on making a simple garden shed out of found wood.

And now, for those of you who have made it this far into the post, TARANTULAS! My friend John in Taos, New Mexico has an amazing picture on his site jhfarr.com from the annual tarantula migration in Taos. It’s amazing, I remember when I lived there seeing hundreds of them all over the roads. So cool.

Have a great weekend everyone, get out there and enjoy this beautiful time of year!
