This is an easy one! A wind-up alarm clock in your bedroom does a few things for you – A. it doesn’t use any electricity, B. it keeps electromagnetic fields out of your bedroom and next to your head. Electric clocks and their electromagnetic fields can interrupt your sleep and often give off the EMF equivalent to that of a power line. Yikes! Ever since I started working for myself, I haven’t even had a clock in my bedroom at all. While I understand that not everyone can be that lucky, the best thing to do is to either use a wind-up clock or at least keep any electric clocks away from your bed and head. Do One Thing and think of going wind-up!

  1. I do miss wind up alarm clocks! So far, one of our pets does the wake up calls quite reliably (He also has an automatic snooze button, since he isn’t very persistent if there is no response – some weekends).

P.S.: As far as I gather, cell phones seem to be emitting/receiving stuff that could be a problem for your health; they also can use A LOT of energy to maintain their (not that recyclable? and not that renewable?) batteries.
