Below is the list of prizes that readers of The Good Human have a chance of winning, and thanks so much to the companies for donating them to give away to you guys. All entries will be assigned a number and a random number generator will choose the winners. Simple, right? OK enough of this jibber-jabber, here are the giveaway items:

A messenger bag from Terracycle. You will win either the bag made from 100% used drink pouches collected by the drink pouch brigade or the bag made from Oreo waste wrappers collected by the cookie wrapper brigade. Bag choice will be made by Terracycle depending on what is available at the time of shipping.

A $30 gift certificate from Affordable Mineral Makeup. Affordable, all-natural makeup with no harmful talc, cornstarch, chemicals, parabens, petroleum, oils or dyes, preservatives, fragrances, lead (like in others lipsticks), and no animal testing.

A copy of the book Big Green Purse by Diane MacEachern. This book urges women to use their consumer clout to protect the environment and themselves. If women change the way they spend their money, they can help solve the environmental crisis – and protect themselves and their families, too. Why women? Because women spend $.85 of every dollar in the marketplace.

Organic, all-natural Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Gel from Yes To Carrots. All Yes To products combine the fresh, unadulterated goodness of organic fruits and vegetables with the purifying and moisturizing properties of 26 minerals harvested from the ancient world’s most renowned spa- the Dead Sea

1 set of 3 RuMe Bags reusable grocery bags, 2 ECOBAGS reusable produce bags, and 1 Ocean Blue Klean Kanteen bottle from

A table runner made from woven recycled paper and a 20% off coupon for other products on the Way Basics website. Way Basics is a founding member of the Sustainable Furniture Council, and they’ve pledged to donate 5% of sales to Help1Up, which provides household furnishings to families in desperate need — victims of natural disasters who’ve lost everything they owned, women and children escaping from domestic violence, working families below the poverty line, and others requiring a hand up.

A pair of organic cotton urban hiker socks from Maggie’s Organics. Made with Certified Organic Wool and great for working out, cycling, or just walking around town!

A messenger bag made of recycled plastic bottles from Act2 – GreenSmart. (Check out my review of this bag.) This messenger is padded for your laptop, has easy access pockets under the flap, a divided interior, a zip pocket in the back, and magnetic flap closures. Exterior & Interior Fabric is 100% rPET polyester.

The e-book version of the book “EcoKids: Raising Children Who Care for the Earth” from EcoBrain. To forge a sustainable future, we need citizens who care for the Earth. We need citizens who understand that planet care is the ultimate form of self-care. But we also need generations who live according to their values and convictions and who can effect positive change in their lives and the lives of others. Because public schools and the popular media cannot be counted on to produce an Earth-friendly citizenry, the task falls to parents. Yet even aware parents often lack the understanding and resources to take on such a task. EcoKids addresses this gap!

A bag made of sustainable Bamboo from Envirosax. Bamboo is 100% biodegradable as it is naturally grown, without assistance from man, thriving naturally without using any pesticides or fertilizers. 100% sustainable, bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world. These bamboo bags are 45% viscose from bamboo, 55% linen. We have one of these bags and love it!

One of two Baggu bags from Go Green With Tara Burner. These bags are made from super strong, rip-stop nylon, hold up to about 25 lbs, and are super-light and compactable. They fold into a flat 5 by 5-inch pouch that easily slips in a purse or pocket. One Baggu holds the contents of 2 to 3 plastic grocery bags!

Thanks to all the companies that so kindly donated products to give away!

This contest is now closed. Winners will be notified on Thursday, Oct 16th, 2008.

The giveaway has been suspended due to the fact that several people were attempting to rig the results with up to 5 or 6 different email addresses even though it was specified that you could only enter once. Due to IP tracking, we could see that the same people were using multiple email addresses and made-up names to try to get extra entries, and because that would not be fair to the legitimate entries, the giveaway has been suspended until further notice.

You know what they say – a few bad apples. The contest will be relaunched next week in a way to prevent this type of thing from happening, sorry for any inconvenience, but I am sure the people who legitimately entered can appreciate that the contest was being rigged and not in their favor. Thanks for understanding.

  1. I’ve been a reading since around January of 2008. I’m a huge fan of the topics covered and the tone of the posts. If I were to win, I’d love one of the Act2 bags. After reading your review of them a while back, I checked out their site and fell in love with their stuff. I emailed the company to ask if they’d consider making a lunch bag, too.
    Thanks for the contest!

  2. I just found your blog for the first time today! Lucky for me to run across this super giveaway. If I could choose something, I would love the Envirosax bag! Thanks so much.

  3. I have been reading for a couple of months via RSS. Your review of products are usually spot on. I would love a Baggu bag, I can’t count the number of times I stop somewhere and would like to have a reusable bag so people don’t give me a funny look when I tell them I don’t want a bag. That would come in handy.

  4. I am a new reader…just about 2 months. This post has been a fabulous resource in itself since I have been searching for paraben free cosmetics and soaps that don’t cost and arm and a leg. Thank for all the great information! I would love the gift certificate to Affordable Mineral Makeup or the Yes to Carrots…haven’t tried either yet but will definately be visting them online.

  5. What a lovely set of giveaways! How awesome! I thought the first pics were actually cookies and juice which I thought was a really strange giveaway for this blog. LOL!

I’d really love to try either Yes to Carrots or the Envirosax bag.

Thanks for putting all the wonderfulness together.

  7. Just found your site today. I was trying to figure out how long it takes glass to disintegrate. (I’m a 7th grade Science teacher.)

I think all the prizes are awesome, but I really did the messenger bag made from recycled plastic bottles. A teacher can never have enough bags.

Also, I’m adding a link to your page on my website! Thanks!

  8. I’ve been reading you for a little over a year now. If I win, I’d really like just about anything, but the Mineral Makeup would be wonderful since that is one thing I haven’t yet ‘greened’ to my standards:) Thank you!

  39. I haven’t ever been to the website before but my sister posted the link on her blog so I thought I would see what it was all about. I liked some of your featured articles and I think one in particular that stuck out was collecting rainwater from the roof. What a great idea! I never would have even thought about conserving water that way. And although drilling might not be the answer to our problems it does provide some relief. Isn’t some better than none? Anyway, nice site and if I did win I would like the $30 gift certificate from Affordable Mineral Makeup. I tried it once and really liked the results. Thanks.

  40. I have been reading for a few months now and do enjoy the blog but I have to say that I was born ”green” – in other words – on a farm where we simply reused and recycled every thing and did green as away of life–it was normal to us as a family for survival- an example was saving tin cans for putting around small plants such as tomatoes so that the wind did not destroy in the spring- and cleaning rain water which we used for rinsing our clothes and our hair- and so on and so on-
