It’s that time again, time for some green news for your weekend reading!
“To anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, (Paul) Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.
The good news is that the Romney-Ryan campaign has likely created dozens of new jobs among the legions of additional fact checkers that media outlets are rushing to hire to sift through the mountain of cow dung that flowed from Ryan’s mouth. Said fact checkers have already condemned certain arguments that Ryan still irresponsibly repeated.” – Fox News. Yes, you read that right. Fox News printed that.
Monsanto, DuPont Spending Millions to Oppose California’s GMO Labeling Law. That’s the same Monsanto that funnels millions to “enviro” group The Nature Conservancy. Have you ever heard TNC speaking out against Monsanto? I haven’t. Curious, don’t you think?
China surpassed the U.S. this year to become the number one in the world for installed wind power generating capacity. In the last six years, installed wind power generating capacity in China increased from 2,000 megawatts (MW) to 52,580 MW, according to the country’s state grid company. We have a lot of catching up to do, so let’s hope Romney doesn’t get elected. After all, he wants to cut investments in renewables by a whopping 80 percent.
In my role as policy consultant for the Center for Food Safety (CFS), I recently wrote about how the Obama Administration is playing politics and putting public health at risk by stalling on critical food safety regulations needed to implement the Food Safety Modernization Act. I am happy to report that the lawyers at Center for Food Safety aren’t waiting any longer. Along with the Center for Environmental Health, CFS has filed a lawsuit in federal court against both the Food and Drug Administration and the White House Office of Management and Budget for failing to comply with mandated statutory deadlines. Be happy we have people like Michele working on these important issues. She and I may not see eye to eye on every topic, but she is doing amazing work.
