We are into April. Warmer regions are ready to wind down for the heat of summer, and cooler, temperate regions are gearing up. If you are in the latter group, I hope you are as excited as I am! For decades, the meat industry has denied any problem with its reliance on routine, everyday antibiotic use for the nation’s chickens, cows, and pigs. But it’s a bit like a drunk denying an alcohol problem while leaning on a barstool for support. Antibiotic use on livestock farms has surged in recent years-from 20 million pounds annually in 2003 to nearly 30 million pounds in 2011.

We have another example of what the Keystone XL might bring now that ExxonMobil is dealing with a pipeline rupture in Mayflower, AR in its Pegasus pipeline. If Exxon spilled oil in your neighborhood, destroying everything, you would be against the Keystone XL pipeline too.

Executive Director of Food & Water Watch Wenonah Hauter warns in her new book, “Foodopoly: The Battle Over the Future of Food and Farming in America,” that the retail giant Wal-Mart is exercising unprecedented and dangerous influence over the U.S. food system. “Walmart has figured out a logistical system that sucks all of the profit out of the food chain,” Hauter says.
