Clean Water Action has a door-to-door campaign in the Denver metro area and across the northern Front Range where fracking is moving into suburban neighborhoods. We hear a lot of stories on people’s doorsteps and we hear lots of stories from our colleagues involved in this issue. The stories we hear are similar to those reported in the newspaper and offered as testimony at recent meetings of the Colorado Oil and Gas Commission—people believe they are getting sick because of drilling and fracking near their homes, schools and neighborhoods.

The need for American citizens to become the policy-makers to create a just and sustainable food supply chain is urgent, because in the hands of the US government it has become increasingly unjust and unsustainable.

Long-term exposure to air pollution may be linked to heart attacks and strokes by speeding up atherosclerosis, or “hardening of the arteries”, according to a University of Michigan public health researcher and colleagues from across the US.

And while New England is clearly moving forward, much remains to be done to ensure the public has a role in ocean planning. New England’s jobs and its regional identity rely on clean coastal waters and beaches, as well as healthy and abundant fish and wildlife. Ocean resources support more than 200,000 jobs in New England, with the tourism and recreation sector representing more than 70 percent of these.
