Those of you who know me or read this blog regularly know that my wife is a teacher. She loves her kids and is very good at her job, making for quite a happy person! Right now she is starting a science program about being “green”…teaching the kids about recycling, toxic chemicals, global warming, etc.. She came home with a book last night that I thought was quite good titled “My First Green Book – A Life Size Guide To Caring For Our Environment“.

Looking through the book last night, I found it to be a great resource for teaching kids about the natural environment, how eco-systems work and how they can help to save it. I don’t think it is in publication anymore (for shame) but she got it out of the library, so you probably can too.

  1. Thanks for recommending this book! You and your wife may also like these other books, which I have reviewed for my site:

The Green Series: Eco Kids Books

The Green Series: Kids Gardening Mixed With Spirituality

There are many opportunities for media to play a role in early environmental education. Through books about animals, different ecosystems, and even environmental issues, we can foster an appreciation of the natural world in young children. Doing so is the first step to leading an eco-conscious life.

By borrowing these books from the library (and/or reading them under a tree outside), we can also model appropriate behaviors for taking care of our planet.
