Um, no. Seems there is an event coming up titled “Building Credibility & Avoiding Greenwash” from Sustainable Brands that you can attend if you so desire. Sounds like a good idea, right? Maybe not, if you look deep enough. The concept is great, and some of the companies who attend/give presentations are, in fact, doing the right thing on a daily basis – and I applaud them and support them with my dollars. However, Sustainable Brands also has corporate partners and members such as Clorox, Coke, Pepsi, Pfizer, DuPont, Unilever, Nestle, Kraft, Wal-Mart, etc., who haven’t shown any real interest in being truly “green” at all. Rather, it’s easier (and cheaper) for them to “greenwash” us all into buying their products – so maybe that’s why they attend a conference named “Sustainable Brands”… to learn the tricks to hide their greenwashing. Brilliant!
Don’t fall for it. Buy from companies who truly care, and use your spending power to make these companies see that you mean business. And if you attend conferences like this, keep your eyes wide open!
