Say It With Me – “I Don’t Need Any More Junk Mail Or Credit Card Offers.”

OK, I know you NEEDED that 9th credit card offer that just showed up in the mail…I mean, how could you turn it down when they offered you 21% interest for 12 years, a free Geo Metro, and a trip to Siberia? Everyone I know gets offers almost daily in their mailbox for new credit cards (even in this economy!)…they hunt us down and send them out. But aside from the fact that people should be trying to get OUT of credit card debt, it is also a complete waste of paper that fills up landfills (if you don’t recycle), adds to the glut in the recycling industry, and destroys forests for virgin paper pulp – all for mail you don’t even want!

Well, I am sure many people know about this service, but for those who haven’t quite gotten the message yet, there is a way to easily stop these offers from clogging up your mailbox…

From the site:

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Consumer Credit Reporting Companies, are permitted to include your name on lists used by creditors or insurers to make firm offers of credit or insurance. The FCRA also provides you the right to “Opt-Out”, which prevents Consumer Credit Reporting Companies from providing your credit file information for firm offers of credit or insurance that are not initiated by you.

Through this website, you may request to:

  • Opt-Out from receiving firm offers for 5 years
  • Opt-Out from receiving firm offers permanently
  • Opt-In and begin receiving firm offers. This option is for consumers who have previously completed a request to Opt-Out.
  • If you choose to Opt-Out, you will no longer be included in firm offer lists provided by these four consumer credit reporting companies.
  • If you are not receiving firm offers because you have previously completed a request to Opt-Out, you can request to Opt-In. In doing so, you will soon be among the many consumers who can significantly benefit from having ready access to product information on credit and insurance products that may not be available to the general public.

If you still get credit card offers you don’t ever sign up, please do everyone a favor and get off those mailing lists. It’s an incredible waste of all kinds of resources and only takes a few minutes of your time to remove yourself.I did this a few years ago, and I VERY rarely get the offers anymore.

However, I was really looking forward to getting my new Geo…..

  1. Most of the CC offers I get are from airline frequent flier programs. I suppose I can’t get out of those? Because I probably indicated, or agree as part of the program, to get such offers when I signed up?
