Still think that one person cannot make a difference? Even after my post titled What can one person really do to make a difference? got a lot of attention, I came across yet another way that one person can make a difference in this world through buying Organic Food. According to the nonprofit The Organic Center, each individual person can make a big difference. The Center wants to encourage people to increase their consumption of organic foods and “make at least 10% of my eating choices organic through the year 2010. That means at least 1 out of 10 items in my grocery cart will be organic or at least 1 out of 10 meals I eat will be organic.”
Wow, that sounds like a great plan. I know for a fact that at least 50-75% of our grocery cart contains organic fruits, veggies, juice, milk, snacks, cereal, bread, etc, but we will make a serious effort to up that amount. It is difficult sometimes because of availability of certain products in organic form, but we will certainly try harder this year.
And according to The Organic Center, if they achieve their goal for 2010 of having everyone eat 10% organic, the combined individuals could have the following effects:
Now THAT is the true effect of one person doing his or her part in order to make a difference…add them all together and the difference can be huge. To make the pledge, visit The Organic Center.
