Hooray for my hometown team! Seems the Boston Red Sox are getting in on the environmental movement and will soon be serving beer out of plastic cups made with corn starch, locally grown, organic foods at the ballpark’s concession stands and maybe even a fifth inning recycling stretch. Nice job! I know Boston is a pretty progressive city, but for a baseball team/park to take these extra steps to reduce their ecological footprint is pretty amazing…baseball and being green don’t exactly go hand in hand. However, it’s a step in the right direction!
Boston Herald: In their bid to make Fenway an environmentalist’s dream, Sox executives are teaming up with the National Resources Defense Council. The nonprofit will help the Sox on an array of green initiatives at Fenway, under a five-year deal. “The greening of Fenway is going to be the confluence of many significant but small activities,” said Allen Hershkowitz, senior scientist with the nonprofit group. “All of these things together will bring Fenway into the 21st century in a more environmentally preferable way.”
